Happily grazing away.
Under saddle.  I'm in NO WAY an english rider, but we did it!
Home atlast.  Thats her ribs under 2 in' of hair, my hands sank into her ribs.
Her first after picture.  She still gained more weight after this even, about another 200 lbs.... fat and happy!
Another after shot.
Our first ride.  Stopping to see the roses.  She was so well behaved, I only needed a halter and reins to ride her.
Pardon the pool, she was up front drying off after a bath when I caught this shot of her neck on my cell phone.
Even in her winter woolies she is beautiful.
Stealing some kisses from our daughter.
Hanging out.
Look at me!

"Marquie" was a mare that came from a friend of mine that needed a home for her.  Marquie was a sweet mare that we ended up not being able to trailer home, she had some issues, but not from being with my friend.  Thankfully we lived less than a mile away and I just rode her home bareback, come to find out she didn't have any saddle training and you would have never known.  She was a breeze to start and was one of my most trusting trail mounts.  We worked on her trailering issues and overcame her hoof trimming issues quickly as well.  Marquie had our first foal, Hermost Fair Marquie, a half Arabian filly, and produced a wonderfully minded, easily trainable foal.  You can see "Moose" on our foal page for more information.  When we decided to concentrate solely on the Paint breed, it was really hard to let Marquie go, but we found her a wonderful home in Eastern Washington with Deer Run Farms and she loves it there and at last check, continues to thrive on the love and attention she receives.

"Jewel" was a rehabilitation that we took in.  We got a call from a friend that had heard about her and passed her information on to me.  The wonderful lady that had her was trying to rehab Jewel but wanted to find her a better home as her other horses were picking on Jewel.  She had already put about 100lbs on Jewel when I got her and there was still a long way to go.  We are not a rescue by any words, but we do try to keep a stall open for a horse in need when we can.  I went to look at her in the dark and was told she was a 15 y/o Quarter/Arab cross.  I made arrangements to pick her up the next day and called to make an appt. with the vet.  When I picked her up we went straight to the vet and there I unloaded the saddest looking bag of bones!  Our vet rated her a 1-2 for body condition score, she was about 400 pounds underweight with a worm load, bad feet, and bad teeth.  They sedated her and got to work, that was my chance to shave her neck (see pic.) and get the registration information she had hidden away.  After we were all said and done, Jewel was missing a lot of teeth and would require a special diet for the rest of her life.  She couldn't chew hay enough to swallow it, so we found her "chop" with molasses and soaked her grain.  Deworming brought another set of issues.... all her hair fell out due to the massive amounts of worms she had.  Our vet was honest and told us that there was a chance we could come out and find her passed away in the condition she was in.  I was almost ready to give up, when I left for a 3 day trip I told my husband that if she died while I was gone to contact me and I would come home early.  When I got back though, she was already looking better, had put on some weight and her eyes had that look of not giving up.  It's amazing to see something after a couple of days, when you see them everyday, you don't always realize the baby steps they are making.

I found Jewels information on the AHA website and it turned out that she was a 24y/o purebred Arabian mare that had AMAZING bloodlines.  She was a Sabino mare that was Crabbet bred.  She had some foals to her name that were just as beautiful as her also.  Jewel continued to improve enough to be ridden lightly, and as she gained even more, I found a very well trained mare under all that abuse and starvation.  I took her to a small local show to see how she did and we won Grand Champion for our age division.  We were also presented with a plaque from the local Animal Control officer and the same friend who passed on Jewel for our efforts and success in rehabilitating Jewel.  I never felt so proud!!  Jewel did great with anything we asked her, she loved the kids and was very happy with us.  I wish I could have kept her, but it just wasn't feasible.  After a lot of checking, and I mean a lot, we looked at the property first, called references, talked to the gals vet, have a stiff contract, you name it, we probably checked it.  I found her a wonderful home in Southern Washington and at last check (with photos) she was doing great and continuing to hold her weight with her special diet.  I am glad that Sherry welcomed this wonderful little mare into her home and am so happy that we were a part of her recovery!  Love you Jewels!!!
Kandi
Welsh Pony

Kandi was a great little pony that we received from some friends moving out of state.  She was a total sweetheart and I really kick myself for selling her.  But at the time we didn't have kids, we were just getting married!  So why would we need a pony hanging around?  We kept her for awhile just to make sure, but we needed to cut back so she was the first to go... unfortunately.  Go figure, about 2 months, and a wedding, later, I found out I was pregnant with our firstborn, thank you Karma!!  But we're really glad that we found Kandi the home we did.  Carolyn bought her for her Granddaughter and last time I checked, Kandi was the greatest tea party, cowboys and Indians, trail pony there was.  Who could ask for more?  I drive by and see Kandi when I can, she usually is just hanging out in her paddock watching the grass grow, happily.... now that's the life!!!

"Lillian" is a wonderful mare that we've had a little over a year.  She is currently owned by Jolly Roger Sport Horses in Oregon.  Lillian is the Granddaughter of the immortal MHR Nobility. She is a very friendly filly that is willing, smart, affectionate, and conformationally correct.
